Body Building and Body Building Products

Body Building, Origins and Body Building Products

First, let me say from the beginning that Get Fit and Healthy does not support the use of steroids of any kind.

Bodybuilding is essentially a form of physical exercise and a form of body modification, that involves intensive muscle hypertrophy.(This means an excessive growth or enlargement of any kind, yet in bodybuilding circles this means to boost the size and definition of one's muscle cells), by transforming the fats in your body into large musclesPeople who do this obviously are called 'Bodydbuilders'. Their main aim is generally for competition purposes, competing as professional bodybuilders and trying to gain the coveted Mr Olympia Competition. In competition they are judged by a panel, whom assign points according to their physiques and appearance. Preparing for a competition bodybuilders use different methods; such as a combination of dehydration, the stripping of fat from their muscles, tanning and oiling their bodies. This all helps to distinctly define particular muscle groups.

Brief History of Bodybuilding

Bodybuilding from a historical perspective originated, in the 1890's with Eugene Sandow. Yet "weight training, as a general athletic activity, was initially practiced as a means to gain strength and measure power in ancient Egyptian and Greek societies. These societies would primarily use stones of various sizes and weights ... in their quest for bodily transformation"(1). So it seems that the origins of bodybuilding, like the Olympics, originated in Ancient Greece. Fast forward to the 11th century in India, and a group of people called 'The Nals' began a practice of lifting stone dumbbells to enhance their health and stamina. During this time gyms were becoming common in India, and 'weight training' became India's national pastime.(1)

From here, we fast forward to the 19th Century, where the early form of bodybuilding began to become more a form of physical display, with the advent of the Strongman. "The intention was not to develop ones physique into a (physical) spectacle... but to thrill crowds with amazing feats of strength(1). The popularity of strongman exhibitions held mainly within the circus environment gave rise to an overwhelming interest in weight training. The most notable were perhaps the strongmen who worked for The Barnum and Bailey Circus. Arthur Saxton, the so-called 'Iron Master' was possibly one of the more prolific, he became famous with a weight lift known as 'The Bent Press'. "This was a type of weight training exercise where the weight (was) brought from shoulder level to overhead, one handed, using the muscles of the back, legs and arms"(2). Saxton set a world record, during this period, for lifting 370 lbs. I will digress for a moment to say, that perhaps this is one of the best exercises that you can do to work your shoulders. I guess it is equivalent to a dumbbell shoulder press. Anyway, back to the history; perhaps even more impressive was Angus MacAskill, or Giant MacAskill, as he was known. Yes he was a giant. standing at 7ft 10in, he weighed 580 pounds. Also a circus performer, he performed with the dwarf 'General Tom Thumb, seen on the left.

He was famous for lifting a ship's anchor, weighing 2800 lbs, and carrying barrels weighing around 300 lbs under each arm(2) (3). It is worth noting that even during this time, when morality in women was considered so prudent, except amongst the seedier parts of society, women payed to have their pictures taken with these strongmen, it gave them the opportunity to delight in the male physic without incurring any stigma. These men were definitely a hit amongst the ladies. Especially Sandow who was a blond and blue eyed athlete that became a matinee idol, long before Steeve Reeves and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the ladies would flock around the counter whenever he performed, 'eager to buy photographs of his scantily clad' body (6).

Therefore, one can not comment on the history of bodybuilding without mentioning Eugen Sandow. For he was essentially 'The Father of Modern Bodybuilding'. As many did at the time he began his professional career as a strongman, but he soon tiard of displaying acts of strength and decided he wanted to show his body as a 'work of art' and began touring with his 'muscle displays' all throughout Europe. In 1901 he organised 'The Great Competition', the first bodybuilding competition ever held. Exhibited at the Albert Hall and judged by himself, Sir Arthur Conan Doyal and Sir Charles Lawes (2); it was a great success, the event sold out quickly and many an enthusiast or spectator were turned away. Judging was decided upon by a mathematical formula and contestants were judged on the 'perfect physique'. An ideal that resembled the proportions of the original Greek and Roman statues. The winner, well they naturally won a bronze statue cast of Sandow himself.

As you can see from this original footage he became very successful; not only with his flexing and posing, he also became a marketing dream.  With many successful ideas, he created numerous business's and was the first of the body builders to marketed products in his own name, such as dumbbells, spring pulleys and tension bands (4). He published his own magazine called "Physical Culture", then made his way to tour America to many a sold out audience (5). His legacy lives on today, not only did he change the way people think and feel about their bodies, he inspired hundreds and thousands of people to become accomplished athletes. "He became the great teacher, popularizer, and performer who helped transform bodybuilding from the occupation of a few faithful devotees to the esteemed sport that it is today" (6).  Unfortunately, whilst it is claimed he died from a stroke, trying to move his car from the mud, in reality he died of syphilis and his wife had him buried in an unmarked grave (2).

Moving Forward to Today

Charles Atlas was another rarity, for popularising bodybuilding and he took his inspiration from Sandow. Charles Atlas grew up as a scrawny immigrant, but he became a true inspiration, turning his body into 'the real deal'. Not only did he transform his own body but that of countless millions around the world including King George VI, Joe DiMaggio, and Rocky Marciano, with his 12 lesson exercise course, that was translated into seven languages. It was the early 20th Century and weights and barbells were just catching on, pulleys, calisthenics, and other exercise  programs were popular at the time, yet, bodybuilding was just about to take off (7)As we move towards more recent years, I guess you can say the rest is history. Today some of the best known bodybuilders have included, Steve Reeves, Arnold Schwazeneger, and Lou Ferringo (The Hulk) to name a few.

Whilst the history of bodybuilding is indeed interesting, today bodybuilding has changed a great deal. There are numerous competitions and rankings, and unfortunately bodybuilding has become stigmatised by the use or I should say misuse of steroids or human growth hormones, HGH. Yet more about that later. The highest level of bodybuilding in the world today is The International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB). With the current Mr Olympia being American Phil Heath. The title of Ms Olympia goes to Iris Kyle, who has defended her title for a whopping 8 years. Whoever takes out this annual event is generally believed to be the world's top bodybuilder. Yet there are other titles in other events, you can see a comprehensive list of all the top bodybuilders competing on the current circuit on their website, as well as, who is in the running for the 2013 Mr and Mrs Olympia (8). At present rankings, the top men's pro is Jay Cutler; whilst the women's top pro rank goes to Adela Garcia. Again however, the winner of the annual Mr and Ms Olympia is generally considered to be the world's top professional bodybuilder. If you are into or thinking of getting involved in Bodybuilding, I highly recommend you check out bodybuilding.com, it has to be one of the most comprehensive websites for everything to do with the sport.

 Phil Heath

Women In The Sport

For many years, even up to the 1960's a lot of people (and some still do?), were under the impression that bodybuilding was the domain and activity for men, and that it was not a sport for women. But boy, how things have changed, through the advertisement of many well known female athletes, women have embraced bodybuilding with gusto. So this draconian view has given way to an equality within bodybuilding. The belief is that most people now realize that bodybuilding is not the privilege solely of men. Women have not just embraced bodybuilding but have excelled within it, and have shown they can compete with not only the best; but in the process have developed some of the most amazing examples and beautiful athletic bodies..

Yet what I do find interesting, and would perhaps enjoy some further discussion on; is that when we posted some images of female bodybuilders on our Facebook  Page, it was only the girls who liked the pictures. I could not understand why this was the case, so I dug into our Facebook demographic a little further, especially the ratio of females to males. Whilst it seems we have a higher demographic of men between the ages of 18 and 34 years of age, compared to women of the same age group, not by much mind you; it has made me wonder how men and women view the ideal female body image. I would really like to hear your views on this, so please share, as I would like to follow up on this subject. But as you can see by these pictures of Pauline Nordin, how can you not say that her body is anything but attractive? Are men intimidated by a strong looking female, or do you guys prefer a curvier more natural looking female form?

Anyway, lets get back on track...

There are many ways to build or increase your muscle size. Most trainers would agree that there are about six to eight ideals that you need to follow if you want to increase your muscle mass. First and foremost, if you wish to increase your size you need to increase your calorie intake, this one goes without saying.. bodybuilding actually begins with nutrition, not lifting massive amounts of weight, saying that, there is in fact a science behind all this! To gain muscle mass your body needs to be in a state of calorie excess. What is calorie excess, look at it like a simple formula:

Your calorie intake - your energy requirement = your calorie excess, (deficit if its negative and maintenance if it is zero) (9)

Furthermore, you will also need to increase your protein consumption, eat protein with every meal, which will be five or six times a day. Protein is essential for every bodybuilder because it not only provides a positive nitrogen balance but it aids in recovery, as well as, anti-catabolism. Lets go back to another formula: In order to gain greater muscle mass you have to breakdown the muscles you already have (catabolism), and increase the building of new muscle (anabolism). When anabolism exceeds catabolism your body produces muscle mass. So if i remember this right what protein does is work both sides by slowing down catabolism and increasing anabolism. This is where a lot of people get into trouble they are not working with the right protein balance, therefore, they are not getting the results they want, hence many turn to the use of anabolic steroids or HGH. You do not need to take a drug to get greater muscle mass. Another reason protein of such importance is that it contains amino acids, which provides the nitrogen your body needs to grow. Now there are heaps of resources on the web that will detail this whole process in depth, this is a fairly simplified version here. Lets take a step back to where we were. Apart from calories and protein, you need essential fats, the good fats, such as flax seed oil or avocado, not greasy chips deep fried in vegetable fat! you will naturally want to cut down on your cardio, the goal here is not to strip but to bulk. Get the right amount of sleep or rest, this also aids recovery but reduces training fatigue. And of course you will want to be training; the most common and definitely effective ways is with weight training, through the use of various gym training equipment or free weights; for example barbells, dumbbell's and weight training machines. Yet you can also achieve muscle growth through other forms of weight training, which do not require the use of equipment, such as press-ups and pull-ups. However, to gain the best outcome it should be noted that a combination of both weight training exercises and weight training machines (hence equipment), will give the greatest of results. Below is an article that was written some time back; I thought it might be relevant here.

Free Weights Vs Machines

Just recently I made the decision to try to alter my body by developing greater muscle mass, so I would be more satisfied with my body appearance, but also as an experiment, to see how long it would take to reach my desired size and appearance. So even though I am a qualified trainer, I decided to enlist some help from some of the guys I knew who were right into bodybuilding. I worked out a training program, with a little help from others and began. Of course, I also had to alter my eating habits, in order to give my body the fuel it needed to embark on such a completely different training program to what I had previously engaged in. Which had more to do with stripping body fat and a large focus on muscle conditioning. As I was engaged heavily in triathlons and martial arts, so I had previously wanted to remain relatively slim, whist fit, but concentrating more so on flexibility and speed. Anyway I digress... So I began my routine, giving it all for a couple of months. So after a few months of this intense training I had noticeable side effects. yet compared to my time in training, the results I received did not appease my expectations. So I began to wonder whether machine weights were simply enough to gratify my desires. This is what my research led me to discover..  Machines exist in gyms across the country and have become increasingly popular for many athletes, etc. They are exceptional for the lone trainee in terms of safety. There is obviously a controlled resistance apparent at all times; due to the cable attached to the weights. Machines are also said to fixate on specific muscle groups in order to obtain potential results on that part of the body. For example, the curl on a machine will directly target the biceps, shoulder, etc. It is obvious how beneficial these machines are for the novice or recreational trainee; which I guess in terms of bodybuilding I was. Yet what I have come to ascertain is that simply, machines did not provide for my expectancy level.  The reason behind free weights being beneficial to serious weight trainers is that they are not as controlled as machines are. Absent of cables and safety harnesses, free weights also require coordination and balance along with strength. For example, while a machine bench will require you to exert force against the pulling of the weights, it is designed to follow a basic motion. This lift will simply build on certain muscles, but no additional force is required to control the lift. A free weight bench press, on the other hand, does not include a cable and trajectory for the weights to follow. In fact, the motion, direction, etc. is all controlled by me, the user. So it is my belief that free of support, this weight training promotes better muscle development and quicker results. As we all realise, safety is the key concern with weight lifting and free weights may prove dangerous to the lone or novice trainee.  Therefore, in order to achieve results quicker, I decided to incorporated free weights into my training regime. I do, though, still maintain my schedule on machines as well. Although they may not perform as aptly as free weights, they also provide for muscle development and can be used to focus more weight on specific areas of the body. Not to mention, they are safe. So I hope this gives you a little more insight into the difference between free and machine weights. Of course we all have different needs, depending upon what our goal or aim is, yet I am now convinced that one can not rely solely on one form of weight training. I hope this helps. The end of my story is that I did achieve the desired result I was after...

For example, the standard dumbbell bicep curl. If you have done this exercise you will know that it is done by standing straight with the palms facing in front and a pair of dumbbells are held at the sides. You have to contract the biceps to take the dumbbells up to the height of the shoulder and then replicate the exercise a number of times.  When you are doing similar exercise movements on a bicep curl machine you need to down, keep your upper arms on the machine, hold both the handles in front of you and do the same motion as mentioned above to shift the handles upwards. In most cases when you work on machine weights, you are limited as to the kind of exercises you can do. You always need to follow an exact method, and this is also true with free weights.  Machine weights provide some amount of resistance which is not true with free weights. The good thing about free weights is that you move around to choose the weight you will like to use.  However, you don’t have to bring the weights to the exercise area, but you just choose the machine when you are using machine weights. This is a very convenient option especially when you are tired from working out.

Many people feel that free weights are very good for your body which is true generally but there are others who believe that machine weights are much better. In facts there are negatives and positives of both the systems. Free weights have been a part of exercise routine for a longer time and they have proven over and over that they can help you achieve remarkable results. The final decision has to be yours based on what you want to achieve by lifting weights and where you will use the gear. Both ways are excellent for the body, even if free weights are better if you are looking for the best workout.

To Recap On What We Have Discussed So Far:

Bodybuilding can be divided into two equal parts;

Nutrition and Training.
The formula is quite simple. Eat right, train right, get enough rest and you’re on your way to building yourself a better body. Stick to this formula and you can’t go wrong, guaranteed. Yet many people complain of laziness, when training. (Perhaps that is one reason why some bodybuilders turn to performance inducing drugs, and whilst not the only reason, we again state categorically, that we do not endorse the use of performance enhancing drugs). Laziness has been the key thing which reduces the capacity of people to body build and many who begin training in this field, often give all manner of excuses for skipping their routine training workout. There are many things which cause body building laziness and they can be handled differently.

Protein and Whey Shakes
Speaking of diet, for you to be able to continuously do your bodybuilding routines, you must have sufficient amount of protein in your body. Most body builders usually intake protein shakes and food items rich in whey protein. Whey protein is beneficial for your health because it helps in repairing and rebuilding muscle tissues. It is most commonly taken after workouts because it surges up the number of amino-acids in the blood, which are ultimately transformed into nitrogen and hence, massive muscles

Reduce Laziness When Bodybuilding
Make sure you get plenty of rest, In addition, another way to get around this is to hire a personal trainer. Having a personal trainer helps, not only with having someone to motivate you but also to regulate your weight training routines, monitor and help balance your diet, and help you achieve the desired size and strength of your muscles.

Choosing The Right Gym
Choosing the right gym is essential. I can tell you from experience that some gyms can be detrimental to your health? One gym in particular I know of has a roaring trade in anabolic steroids, so choose wisely. Check the gym out thoroughly, talk to the staff, and try out their equipment. Many gyms will allow you to do this or give you a free pass to help you make up your mind. If your goal is to body build make sure they have a complete set of weight training equipment necessary for body building. You can find a list of gyms in your area via your local directory or online. Yet I would suggest hooking up on some bodybuilding forum websites when choosing a gym. Finding a gym that is fully equipped with cardiovascular and resistance machines, is a good place to start. Also the added addition of a gym with a hydrotherapy pool, steam room or sauna for your leisure helps after that excruciating bodybuilding routine.

Body Building is not an easy activity, especially when you do not have a concrete plan of action and a goal set for yourself. Now to know how to get these things in line, you need to be a professional, which you are not. So where do you go to build your muscle start a muscle building program? You go to the gym.

Sytropin Body Building

Here is another article we featured some time back, written by a former member, again it seemed to fit the theme of this blog so I stuck it in, it is always a topic for discussion. however, we have modified it slightly and added some additional information. Included at the end are some of the original comments we received..

We have a fascination with the perfect body. It may have something to do with symmetry. Ever since Leonardo’s depiction of man and the ratio 1:: 1.44 have we sought to look good and to the extent that we diet, exercise and perhaps take supplements like sytropin. yet before the onset of modern technology, physical activity was a given in everyday life. With bodybuilding being more fashionable than ever these days, for a lot of people, they do it not to exaggerate the size of their muscles but to tone them and keep them firm. (Especially with the limited amount of time we have to pursue other activities besides work, and out daily tasks of shopping, cooking etc, keeping in shape is often becoming harder and harder for many). No doubt technology plays a big role and is to blame as well. For most societies, the day started before dawn. Chores such as chopping wood, fetching water, milking the cow were standard in most households. These activities were not deemed as hard and tiresome but were part of everyday life. In fact, walking a mile to school was considered normal and ordinary. (Image see (10).
Human Growth Hormone or (HGH) Sytropin is generally a HGH Oral Spray. Delivered through the nose, it is popular as one generally does not need a prescription for it, and one does not need to inject themselves. Typically by the age of 30, (I'd say 40-50 years of age)  the body slowly stops producing as much HGH. This decrease in HGH levels is thought to increase the onset of aging symptoms. Perhaps another reason for its popularity, for (the) many companies who produce and sell Sytropin claim. Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is a hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland in the brain. HGH promotes tissue repair, cell regeneration in the bones, muscles and vital organs, and supports the immune system in combating infection and disease. As the body's cells die off, HGH acts as a "trigger" to ensure that replacement cells are healthy and readily available. As we age, our HGH levels decline, causing our cell replacement levels to reduce to a fraction of the levels of our youth. With the outstanding health benefits human growth hormones can provide to the body, products in various forms and sizes have been manufactured to profit from the need to sustain this important hormone. The Sytropin spray is touted to be on the top of this game. And this is strongly backed by the various advantages it can deliver to man’s well being. Sytropin – The Spray of Youth and Vitality
Aging is highly correlated to the amount of HGH in the body. Less growth hormone becomes available as the person becomes older. Fortunately, there is a way to encourage the release of the HGH with the help of an oral spray. The Sytropin spray is becoming one of the popular products that can help the body hold back aging and keep it functioning at its best.

According to Sytropin.com; has been well documented from it's anti-aging properties to its effect on athletic performance, they claim it has been extensively covered by CNN, Newsweek, dateline, Oprah Winfrey and The American Journal of Medicine. yet they dont seem to offer any comment of what these reviews deduced. They go on to state that The New England Journal of Medicine, (in their exact words), that users of HGH experienced a dramatic decrease in body fat and increased lean muscle mass. (Other benefits they list, include the following); (10). Please note the following below, contact us if you want this reference.
  •  improved skin elasticity and a reduction in wrinkles
  • regrowth of thicker, healthier hair
  • greater cardiac output with renewed energy and vitality
  • more restful and restorative sleep
  • increased libido and enhanced sexual performance
  • improved memory, sharper vision and increased positive mood
  • enhanced immune system with better disease resistance and rapid wound healing, and
  • stronger bones and muscles, lower blood pressure, and decreased cholesterol
Now I don't know about you but the sound of this products being able to do all this seems to good to be true.. Further on their testimonials page there is not one negative comment. So we went in search of our own... And to tell you the truth I couldn't find any? Anyway I was taking a look at some of the comments we got when we first published this article. Now I am going to make an executive decision to remove the reference, due to the number of what seemed like children wishing to get their hands on the stuff. So in the interest of not plagiarising someone else's work, or for other legal and ethical reasons,  if you wish to know where the above webpage information came from, inbox us at our Facebook or Twitter Page and we will get back to you, provided your over 18 years of age. Here is just a taste of some of the comment's we got, email addresses have been removed.

So for those who have as yet to wake up to themselves when it comes to taking HGH or steroids, hopefully these video's may go some way in helping you to realise that taking a drug is  contrary to what fitness stands for.

Body Building Supplements For Beginners

Everyone has questions on supplements; ‘Do I need supplements to gain muscles fast?’, ‘What supplements are needed for body building beginners?’, ‘Are the nutrients from my daily meals enough for me to gain bigger muscles fast?’. Well we have kind of answered some of these questions already above. Bodybuilding training does require some form of protein or whey supplement. However, with the expansion in bodybuilding today, it seems we all want that perfect body with mighty muscles, even us girls. A body building regime combines a good diet with a strict work out regime. There are a flurry of body building products in the market which promise complete health and weight gain. But to choose the right one is very difficult as it is not always about gaining weight. Force Factor (or so I have been told. Yet I am a supporter of GNC, so if they stock it, it must be relatively good) is a stand out in this category of products.

Nitric oxide is one of the primary ingredients which body builders, and sportsmen prefer to build instant muscles with little strain on the bones and the tendons. Force factor is a product which amalgamates Nitric Oxide with many natural sources of protein. Thus this product can encourage muscle development with little or no side effects.
Benefits of Nitric Oxide:
* Helps to get stronger pumps and muscle fullness.
* Enhances your mental awareness.
* Strengthens the blood flow and the oxygen supply to the body tissues.
* Nitric Oxide also increases your strength, endurance and power.
Along with nitric oxide this product has a number of essential proteins and amino acids like Argenine-compounds, Calcium Phosphate and Di-potassium phosphate.

Basics of Weight Lifting

If you want to be successful in the gym, then you need to know some basics. Every beginner makes some common mistakes at first so I hope this will go a small way in preventing that from happening. Here are some basics of weight lifting tips to help you start off.

These are just some basic principles that everyone should know. If you lift with heavier weights and do less reps then you will get bigger and gain more weight. If you lift with lighter weights and do more reps you will tone your body and gain less weight. You really don’t need to have or do anything fancy if you want to see good results. Stay focused on the smaller ideas here. Don’t over train your body or look into any advanced types of work outs. Look to do standard everyday exercises such as the bench press, squatting, etc. You should have at least one day of rest in between each session to ensure that your body has properly rested enough.
Make sure you are training your whole body.

A Tip For Those Who Wishing To Loose Weight by Lifting Weights
Exercising in the gym is not only popular but a great way to get in shape, whether your aim is to build muscles or and to burn fats. Often, people will try to lift heavy weights to build muscles, so as to create a lot of cardiovascular heat to burn fat. It is a good strategy and effective weight loss routine. But many people consider these two activities mutually exclusive. Actually lifting weights will help burn fat dramatically. In fact, one reason why some people never burn stored fats is because they do not lift weights regularly. You can actually burn away the kilos or pounds by weight lifting

Losing weight is on nearly everyone’s mind. You want to lose a few extra pounds somewhere on your body, right? Well, there are so many different exercises that you can try. You could either run, swim, play basketball, or weight lift. It is amazing the amount of weight loss that you can have when you lift a few weights at the gym.

Basic Weight Lifting Tips For Beginners
Weight lifting is great for many people for various reasons such as to have fun, to compete, to gain strength and to get your body in shape. For beginners you may wonder if you should start your weight lifting experience with dumbbells or machines. Read through the weight lifting tips mentioned above and follow up with the references below, to help you find scientifically proven facts for each approach.

Protecting Your Body While Weight Lifting
Weight lifting can not only be a great way to build serious muscle and get into great shape; but it can also be dangerous if not done properly. Someone who is advanced might have a day for biceps and a day for chest, etc. You do not want to do this since you need to prepare your body first and let it get used to working out. Do not work out one area like crazy and the other not at all. Men tend to focus on their upper bodies, such as their chest, back, shoulders, arms etc. Women tend to focus on their lower bodies, such as their butt, hips, thighs, etc. Do not fall under this stereotype, keep your workouts balanced.

We hope this blog will help you with starting to lift weights.Remember to adjust your weight and amount of reps according to what you are looking to do. Don’t over do anything at first and give your body the rest it deserves. Be sure to train your body as a whole and stick to the basics to succeed. It is very important to be aware of your body condition and your capability of workouts. To achieve your desired muscle you have to drive yourself to new limits. You should always remember that when you exercise, you train for your health and fitness. You train for an hour or so in the gym and you have 23 more hours when your muscles are exercised without the use of fancy equipments. In any type of exercise the movement of the body while exercising is termed as the ‘range of motion’. It is understood that the tougher the range of motion, more useful is the exercise, as the body has to work much harder to do the movements.

Now I am not the expert on bodybuilding, Jai is, so you can post your questions to him on Facebook or Twitter, or take a tour around bodybuilding.com, they really are the experts when it comes to this. The quest for achieving the perfect body is big business. If one were to consider the amount of money invested for spas, gyms, tanning salons, and fitness centers, these investments run in the billions and many more are being built. And this is just one aspect of the health and wellness industry. The number of diet plans and systems these days has multiplied and continue to grow. If you have followed any of 'my' personal posts on the Facebook Page of late, you know where I personally stand when it comes to these numerous diet pills, programs and supplements. Then there is the natural supplement market and its niches. From herbalife, nutrilife, etc, and even Sytropin for Body Building, these companies continue to come up with their products for various segments of the market. In the end, with so many choices available, it is your choice on what to sift and filter, and what to use to try to get back to shape, in the hopes of having that perfect body. All I suggest is do your homework, do not take things on face value, question the motives of why a product seems so wonderful or promises such remarkable results. In my opinion, fitness begins in the kitchen, first and foremost. Sorry to use the pun, but "you are what you eat".

So why don't we end this blog by returning to a bit more history, just to round things up.

Previous to this way of living, other civilizations were worse. A “Spartan Life” refers to the rough and tough roles Spartan men had in their society. As a warrior class, boys were raised early on to fight as soldiers, enduring much pain and suffering in order to survive. For those of us who have watch the movie “The 300,” the scenes depicted there regarding Spartan life is almost factually based. Those who also watched the movie marveled at the physique of the Spartan soldiers, as they were lean and mean most with washboard abdominal's and all fit to the core. The Ancient Olympics games were a testament to man’s physical ability and man’s physique as well. In those days, the games were played and only seen by males since most athletes competed in the buff. And to this day, we as spectators marvel at athletes during the modern Olympics not also for their skill and athleticism but also on how toned their bodies are. There is nothing wrong with appreciating their fitness and perhaps unconsciously, it is wishful thinking that we had their bodies, or perhaps we remember that once some time back, we did.

Celebrate With Us

Celebrate With Us

Well it seems there hasn't been a 'Get Fit and Healthy' Blog for sometime... But there no time to fix that than the present. So to celebrate our first 1000 Facebook Page Likes we are giving away a $100.00 Gift Card for either Running Bare, Londsdale or New Balance.
More about that later...

A lot has been going on since our last Blogger Post, by chance, (and some missing staff!), its almost the same time as last year, since our last Blog was published. It seemed nobody was given the task? However, we have become a lot more organised and professional over the past year.  All our staff who weren't accredited have become so. During the past year we have learnt a lot about people and politics when it comes to trying to run a new business. We have had a lot of restructuring, people have left, things haven't been done! a lot of changes have been made. In addition, we are (at this very moment), in the process of building a new and improve website. On that note, the old website will be coming down on the 22nd of November, everything is backed and will be transferred to the new website, as we know a lot of our old followers are wondering if we will be bringing the website back. We will and we are working on the new design and programming over the Christmas break. We have a lot of great ideas, and; we would love to hear what you want in the new website. However, we would also like your help with a few small design ideas.

That brings us to the contest; one of the ideas we do have is a video on the Home Page with all our fans shouting out 'Get Fit and Healthy' all mashed together in different languages; situations, and mixed in with some of your sporting  video or photographic experiences. So please get involved. If we wish to use your downloads we will contact you for permission. You will be rewarded for your effort. But we also would like to say thanks to everyone who has supported us from the beginning and this is why we are running this competition. As well as, to celebrate our first 1000 Facebook Page Likes. It will be interesting to see if some of the original members are still with us, following?

The more uploads the better, and the most original and entertaining we will cherish and  certainly use....

So lets not waste any more time and get strait to the contest,.  We will be judging the winner based on a tally system, everyone who enters will be awarded points that will go towards your final tally, and you can enter as many times as you like. So here are the rules and /or options.
